That timeframe is now, it seems, as users in the Motorola Feedback Network tip they are starting to get the 8.1 Oreo update as we speak, apparently as part of Moto’s usual soak tests before an official push. Coded as version number OPP28.60, the update is a hefty 1.2GB, indicating a lot of changes under the hood. There are some screenshots of the update below – in Portuguese, since the soak test has apparently rolled out in Brazil first, and should be hitting your G5S Plus globally soon.
Motorola announced that it is ready with the Android Oreo update for the Moto G5S Plus two weeks ago, but things hit a snag since, and the update has taken its sweet time to light up the system notifications.
Back then, it confirmed that it the release for Moto G5S Plus is ready, and it will bring Android 8.1 Oreo to the phone along with extra multitasking options, better notification controls, data saver and battery management options like a new power menu, as well as Bluetooth bug squashes. There was, however, one hint that the update won’t go out immediately, and it was that the Moto G5S Plus will get the June security patch milk with its Oreo cookie, but, since Google hadn’t yet released it, the move from Nougat to Oreo was apparently destined for a later date.
